Mountain regions are increasingly challenged by climate change, rising tourism pressure, and demands for both conservation and recreation in the light of future oriented livelihoods. This synthesis workshop integrates findings from seven sessions exploring how sustainable tourism and outdoor sports can be balanced with environmental protection, digital innovation, and inclusive and sustainable livelihoods.
The vulnerability and transformation of mountain huts, hiking trails, and climbing areas – which are directly impacted by extreme weather events, permafrost melt, and overuse. Sessions addressed how these assets can be adapted through climate-resilient construction, sustainable management, and inclusive access (FS 3.100, WS 3.106).
Key perspectives examine the interplay between protected area tourism (FS 3.212), digital tools for outdoor recreation (FS 3.187), and the need for inclusive and sustainable livelihoods in mountain communities (FS 3.161). Emphasis is also placed on reconciling the growth of mountain sports with conservation objectives (FS 3.110) and the broader shifts in tourism patterns driven by climate change (FS 3.133).
Together, these sessions inform a multi-level discussion on the future of mountain regions as living, working, and recreational spaces.

IMPORTANT: The review result (of the convener) is a general suggestion to the organizing committee, which finally decides on the review. In most cases, we will follow your decisions and in case changes are needed due to organizational issues (e.g. not enough contributions for an individual poster session), we would contact you. The authors of the abstracts will not be informed immediately after you completed the review but after the end of the review phase.
