Description
HIMAT is the University of Innsbruck’s newly relaunched research center dedicated to studying Human Interactions with Mineral Resources and Alpine Terrain. This interdisciplinary center unites archaeologists and historians with experts from the bio-, geo-, and material sciences to investigate human-environment interactions in alpine landscapes. HIMAT’s research spans various temporal and spatial scales, focusing on the long-term cultural, biological and environmental evolution of mountain regions.
A key focus of HIMAT is exploring the prehistoric roots of human entangelment with mountain landscapes over centennial to millennial timescales. By examining sites, settlements and material culture, and employing state-of-the-art methodologies, HIMAT delves into the deeper historical dimensions of human life in alpine environments.
At this welcome reception, we will introduce the relaunched HIMAT research center, showcase its cutting-edge technical infrastructure and laboratory facilities, and highlight recent developments, projects, and research sites. We will also share our vision for the center’s future, particularly in terms of international collaboration and outreach.
The evening will conclude with a dinner at a nearby restaurant, offering an opportunity for informal discussions and networking.
