Description

Nepal is highly vulnerable to climate change, facing increased threats to both food security and environmental stability. Thus it is necessary to address these pressing challenges through locally-led initiatives and local solution practice. It can be done by building adaptive capacities, promoting sustainable farming practices, and fostering environmental conservation. In doing so, it directly combats the adverse effects of climate change and bolsters food security, fostering a more resilient and sustainable future for Nepal. Thus, this project strategically addresses global environmental and development challenges through agroforestry, effectively combating land degradation and productivity loss by conserving soil and water resources. By merging trees and crop (Turmeric, Ginger,) cultivation, it bolsters biodiversity, enhances climate resilience through carbon sequestration, optimizes resource management, diversifies economic livelihoods, improves food security, and aligns with Sustainable Development Goals. This holistic approach showcases agroforestry’s potential to positively impact both local and global sustainability concerns. The project objective is to empower 200 local farming households through resilient agro-forestry practices, improving market access, and promoting socioeconomic fairness for marginalized communities. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by women, indigenous populations, youth, and individuals with disabilities, the project actively involves them in decision-making, skill development and entrepreneurial activities to address socioeconomic disparities.
