Description
Mountain precipitation has undergone significant changes in recent decades and is projected to continue evolving in the future due to climate change. As a critical component of the hydrological cycle, mountain precipitation serves as a primary source of freshwater for ecosystems, rivers, and downstream communities. Alterations in these precipitation patterns impact key hydro-meteorological processes, including water storage, runoff timing, soil moisture and groundwater dynamics, as well as cloud formation and orographic weather patterns. Understanding these shifts is essential for sustainable water management and adaptation strategies. In this session, we invite submissions covering a wide range of topics, including but not limited to: Techniques for observing and quantifying changes in mountain precipitation and associated processes. Projections of future mountain precipitation under varying climate scenarios. Feedback mechanisms between mountain precipitation and other Earth system components. Interactions between hydro-meteorological changes and socio-economic systems. Case studies of extreme events linked to mountain precipitation and their impacts. We aim to foster interdisciplinary discussions to enhance understanding and inform resilience strategies for vulnerable mountain regions and their downstream dependencies.
