The Andes are the longest mountain range in the world. With more than 7.000 km-long, the Andes cordillera covers seven South American countries (Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela), hosting a wide variety of climate regimes and biodiversity. The scientific community has significantly grown across the Andean countries, however, research agendas have been addressed from the national level. The Regional Hydroclimate Program for the Andes (ANDEX; https://www.andex-rhp.org/) is an initiative developed within the Global Energy and Water Exchanges (GEWEX), a core project of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP). ANDEX aims to improve our understanding and prediction of climate and hydrology along the Andes cordillera. With more than 60 Andean scientists and a very strong Early Career Research network (JovenAndex), ANDEX is addressing important scientific challenges regarding high impact weather and climate events affecting Andean regions and water security in the Andes.
