Tapado Glacier is located in the Dry Andes of Chile. Its elevation ranges from 4600 m to 5500 m. Intense solar radiation, cold air, strong winds and low humidity have shaped impressive penitentes. Over the last years, the size of the penitentes has increased due to extreme arid conditions and high summer temperatures. Glacier runoff plays a key role for downstream areas in this region. CEAZA has been monitoring its changes since 2009.
