Situated within the Cairngorms National Park, the Ben Avon massif includes the largest alpine plateau in Scotland and reaches a maximum elevation of 1171m. The plateau supports a mosaic of alpine habitats including fell-field, snowbeds, moss heath, grassland and dwarf-shrub heathlands. Since 2017 we have been using the natural vegetation mosaics in this area to investigate the links between above and below ground biodiversity.
