A dry stone wall obviously does not represent a classic field site. From the social science point of view, this so-called ‘Steinhag’ is nevertheless an indicator for the presence of mountain agriculture and hence of humans and grazing livestock in the alpine cultural landscape of East Tyrol. Building such a barrier from surrounding, natural construction materials protects livestock from predators and eases milking.
