Abstract

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) is an intergovernmental organisation based in Nepal and works across the Hindu Kush Himalaya. Established in 1983, its member countries are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan. Since its established, ICIMOD’s mandate has been to address the transboundary environmental challenges of the HKH region through knowledge generation, science-policy interface – broadly through science diplomacy. The presentation will give a brief overview of the opportunities and challenges of science diplomacy in the HKH. A detailed overview of ICIMOD’s work since the publication on the Hindu Kush Himalaya Assessment: Mountains, Climate Change, Sustainability and People. This will ideally set the agenda for the focus session of regional cooperation and collaboration in the Hindu Kush Himalaya.
