Description

Join us on our excursion to Gaisbergferner!

Field experiences are important for deepening our understanding of natural systems, challenging our assumptions, and connecting abstract science with the landscapes we study. The area around Obergurgl is a very good example of how glaciers have shaped the environment over millennia. On this excursion, we will explore the local terrain, observe evidence of the last ice age and visit Gaisbergferner, one of the region’s remaining glaciers.

Our hike will not only offer beautiful views but also hands-on learning experiences. Using the ECOBOT, we will do measurements, including albedo, changes in near-surface temperature, and radiation components.

The excursion involves a half-day hike through a high alpine landscape. If you’d like to join, be sure to bring appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. While it may still feel like summer in the valley, temperatures at higher altitudes can be much colder, so come prepared for changing conditions!
