The bird cliff “Alkhornet” represents one of our field sites on Svalbard. The site is situated in Isfjorden, with the Harrietbreen glacier in the background. On the steep mountain side in the top left are several bird species nesting in large numbers, fertilizing the plateau below. This results in a nutrient enriched, lush vegetation, providing the best conditions for us to examine different vegetation-microbiota-soil interactions.© Simone Fior
