Soil as Key Factor in Mountain Hazards
Thematic Frame
Mountain regions are particularly susceptible to natural hazards such as landslides, avalanches, and rockfalls, which pose significant risks to both ecosystems and human settlements. Understanding the complex interplay between geological, hydrological, and climatic factors is essential for effective hazard assessment and mitigation. This focus group will focus on the role of soil for natural hazards in mountain regions and will include a mix of theoretical knowledge, hands-on fieldwork, and numerical modeling. Participants will profit from discussion with peers working on related topics and gain hands-on experience, from observing and analyzing landslide sites to performing soil tests and applying models for hazard assessment.
