#S4SSS22 – A Review

The #S4SSS22 was an incredible success, with over 70 enthusiastic PhD students joining the event, which could finally be held onsite again in Obergurgl, Austria. Blessed with fantastic weather, participants enjoyed not only the breathtaking mountain scenery but also a dynamic and enriching experience filled with productive discussions, networking opportunities, and collaborative learning.

The summer school reached a new milestone this year with the introduction of five focus groups, each dedicated to different critical areas of research for mountain regions. Topics ranged from tourism and sustainable development to atmospheric science, climate change, and the ecology of high-altitude environments. This diversity of focus areas allowed participants to engage with a wide spectrum of ideas, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of research required to address the complex challenges facing mountain regions.

The atmosphere was both professional and collegial, fostering an environment where participants could freely exchange ideas, discuss their work, and form connections that will continue long after the event. Feedback from participants indicated that the combination of high-quality content and ample time for networking made the experience truly invaluable. The #S4SSS22 once again set the bar high, creating unforgettable memories for all involved.
