Description
Fieldwork is a crucial component of nearly all aspects of mountain science. A well-organized and carefully executed field trip can be an incredibly rewarding experience, while poor planning or unforeseen complications can quickly turn it into a logistical nightmare. What strategies and techniques ensure a successful fieldwork expedition? This session invites discussions on best practices for planning and conducting fieldwork:
- How to make a good field plan?
- How to make everyone stay happy?
- What is the biggest limitation in your field work preparation?
- How can team morale be maintained during extended fieldwork campaigns in isolated or difficult conditions?
- What are some common mistakes made during fieldwork and how can they be avoided?
- How to handle personal hygiene, especially as a woman?
…..
From dealing with unpredictable weather and difficult terrain to managing team dynamics. How to maintain team morale during long expeditions and handling setbacks. Whether your fieldwork spans days, weeks, or months, join us to share experiences and learn how to turn potential challenges into opportunities for success.
Format/Concept
This workshop will be an open discussion about anything that people want to bring up. It will be a mix of short presentations and long discussion times, with the goal to create a collection of ideas (in which form still needs to be determined).
This should be fun too, so definitely also bring all the good field stories you have!
Everyone is welcome to join, even if you have no hands-on field experience and just want to listen in.
