Description

Our session consists of three to four presentations that look at various aspects of mountain festivals: (1) Harald Höbusch will introduce a planned edited volume on mountain festivals and discuss questions pertaining to representation and inclusion / exclusion in mountain film festivals around the world. (2) Caroline Schaumann will discuss rock climbing as counterculture at small-scale climbing festivals targeted to specific audiences. Two possible additional presenters will still need to be confirmed, but may include (3) Christian Quendler (Innsbruck University) who will give a historical overview of mountain festivals, focusing on the Trento Film Festival as the oldest international film festival dedicated to mountains. (4) Julie Rak (University of Alberta) will focus on gender in festival-driven mountaineering documentaries, especially the Banff Mountain Film Festival.
