WS 3.104: Advances in integrated mountain research

Mountains are key systems and are vital for studying the impacts of global environmental changes. This workshop, facilitated by the five working groups of the Mountain Research Initiative (MRI), invites short presentations on inter- and transdisciplinary research examining past, present and future environmental change in mountain ecosystems, its effects on both ecosystems and people, and new directions for addressing these challenges in the future, with a reference to the GLOCHAMORE research strategy that guided the MRI in the past. Contributions may focus on discursive inputs with attention to socio-economic dimensions, risks, adaptation, mitigation and innovation strategies. Research that addresses knowledge gaps through novelty and methodological advances in realising the integrative vision of science in mountain regions, and that incorporates socio-environmental data to improve understanding of hazards, vulnerabilities, and risks are particularly encouraged. We welcome submissions from ECRs and regional examples of research that builds future scenarios by addressing transdisciplinary processes. Initiated by short “agenda-setting” research flash talks in the context of the five MRI working groups, all participants will engage in a World Café discussion to identify cross- and transdisciplinary research within, across and beyond the current MRI activities with an aim to inform the mission and vision that the MRI promotes.
